The ceremony of awarding the laureates of the XXI Zodchestvo festival took place on December 24 in Gostiny Dvor. This year the festival was postponed three times, the venue and dates of its holding were changed. As a result, the dates shifted to the New Year itself, which gave the event a festive touch. The ceremony was traditionally chaired by the President of the SAR Andrey Bokov.
The main award, the Grand Prix of the Crystal Daedalus festival, went to St. Petersburg, just like last year, but this time it was not Nikita Yavein who received it, but Mikhail Kondiain and Nina Popovskaya from the Zemtsov, Kondiain and Partners architectural bureau … The jury members noted the implementation of their project for the New Stage of the Alexandrinsky Theater, located on Rossi Street in St. Petersburg. The new stage was built on the site of the former theater workshops and consists of three main buildings, united by a common foyer. The buildings accommodate the main hall for 350 spectators, rehearsal areas, a media center, and classrooms. The workshop has been designing the theater since 2006, and in May 2013 its grand opening took place. It should be noted that this object has already received prestigious awards: following the results of the "Architecton" competition, the "Zemtsov, Kondiain and Partners" bureau awarded the Grand Prix for it in the "Construction" nomination.
In the “Projects” section, the Vladimir Tatlin Prize was awarded to the concept of an entrance sign to the city of Yakutsk, developed by the architect Gennady Popov and Sakhaproekt LLC. The award was presented in the Open Public Spaces category. Presenting the diploma, Alexander Asadov noted that “the authors of the entry sign presented an amazing work, taking as a basis the image of a prison historically located on this place. This is a small, but very multi-layered work, which did not leave indifferent any member of the jury. The entire silhouette is formed by thin copper tubes, because of this, when moving, the volume disappears from the field of view, then appears again. This is an example of high-quality modern architecture, executed at the international level,”concluded Asadov. And the author of the concept promised that the sign will be implemented next year, strictly according to plan.
The gold among the buildings was awarded to the Tavrichesky residential house in St. Petersburg, built according to the project of the Mamoshin architectural studio, the Russky bridge in Vladivostok, developed by NPO Mostovik, and their bobsleigh track Sanki for 9,000 spectators in Sochi, the interior of the Novokosino Moscow metro station on the Kalininskaya line (authors - Metrogiprotrans LLC) and the shopping mall on Arkady Gaidar Street in the Avtozavodsky district of Nizhny Novgorod by the creative workshop of the architect Nikishin.
All the winners of the "gold" were awarded more than once during the ceremony. Perhaps, Mikhail Mamoshin appeared on the stage more often than anyone else: his project of the Shemanovsky historical, cultural and museum complex in Salekhard was twice noted, which Alexander Asadov called "a real northern world - a kind and uniting diverse buildings into a single expressive and identically northern ensemble." Mamoshin himself stressed that this work was done with the thought of the arctic ancestral home of mankind. Once again, Mamoshin and his wife had to go up on stage to receive an award from their son, who received a diploma from the National Council for Green Architecture for a project to reconstruct a former barnyard into a public and leisure center.
NPO Mostovik received another award in the Public Spaces nomination, and also won a silver diploma as one of the best design institutes. The International Academy of Architecture presented its award to Mostovik. In addition to gold, Metrogiprotrans took silver at Zodchestvo: thus, the jury singled out one more metro station that had been built - Alma-Atinskaya. Nikishin's workshop was also awarded a silver sign in the "Projects" section for the project of a residential building on Chernigovskaya Street in Nizhny Novgorod. The jury was impressed by the novelty and quality of the architecture, which is very difficult to achieve in such a typology as housing.
The jury was particularly generous with the silver awards this year. Participants received silver in several nominations at once. In the nomination "Multi-apartment residential buildings" the residential complex "Dymka" with an underground parking lot on Uritskogo street in Kirov (LLC "Project Stroy SSK"), a residential building on the Varkaus embankment in Petrozavodsk from CJSC "Petrozavodskarhproekt" and a residential area in Ulyanovsk, which was designed by A. Khudin and E. Polyakova. In the category “Low-rise cottage-type buildings”, the company “Architecturium. Workshop of Vladimir Bindeman "for the residential complex" Riga quarter "in Krasnogorsk. Among the objects of social and cultural purposes, the jury singled out the office center Gudou Plaza in Sukhumi, built according to the project of GBI "Sukhgorproekt". The "Trofimovs' workshop" from St. Petersburg was awarded for the project of the restoration and storage center of the State Hermitage. Another event worthy of the silver mark was the sports building in Nizhny Novgorod - a joint project of the architect Alexei Kamenyuk, the Open Architecture office and the creative workshop of Pestov and Popov. In the "Restoration and Reconstruction" nomination, the work of "GrandProjectCity" LLC was distinguished for changing the architectural appearance of the "Poselkovaya" and "Rosa Khutor" substations in Krasnaya Polyana. The author of this project, Karen Saprichyan, receiving the award, emphasized the importance of carrying out the project from start to finish, and even in preparation for the Olympic Games, despite the incredible time pressure, it is always important for an architect to “go through the construction site”.
In the "Projects" section, a gold diploma went to the State Tretyakov Gallery and the staff of the Mosproekt-4 Institute. Alexander Asadov, presenting the honorary award, wished its authors to successfully bring this long-term project to implementation.
In addition to traditional nominations, such as “Best Print Edition” or “Best Film about Architecture and Architects,” this year, for the first time, the “New Urban Planning” and “Architecture for Life” contests were held. As the organizers explain, these competitions "are designed to draw the attention of the professional community and the wider public to trends and findings in the field of territorial planning and the convenience of facilities for humans." Here the protagonists were Primorgrazhdanproekt from Vladivostok and the construction organization FGUP GUSS Dalspetsstroy under Spetsstroy of Russia of the city of Khabarovsk, who received a gold diploma for the Patrokl Bay microdistrict in Vladivostok. But the competition "New Urban Planning" did not reveal a clear winner, although three organizations at once awarded the CAP diplomas: the Ministry of Construction, Architecture and Territorial Development of the Rostov Region, the Department of Architecture, Urban Planning and Regulation of Land Relations in Yekaterinburg and the Department of Urban Planning and Research Works of the State Committee Republic of Bashkortostan for construction and architecture,.
The national prize "Echo of Leonidov", founded by Andrei Gozak, was awarded to a team of authors from St. Petersburg consisting of A. Berzing, A. Voronov, G. Snezhkin, E. Novosadyuk, I. Padalko for the temple in Anty and the Raketa hostel on 45 persons. The jury liked the "original interpretation and development of Ivan Leonidov's ideas"
Separately, I would like to mention the repeatedly noted project of a nursing home in the city of Meshchovsk, Kaluga region and its author Yaroslav Usov, head of the Designus bureau, who successfully defended his dissertation on the day of the awarding ceremony. Andrei Bokov called it "a new star of architecture", and Alexander Asadov emphasized that "in domestic practice there are very few examples when social housing has such outstanding architectural qualities."
The best design institute was State Unitary Enterprise NIIP Mosproekt-4, and the Ostozhenka workshop was named the best creative architectural team, the award was received by Andrey Gnezdilov, who appeared in the hall, who noted the importance and need to support the Zodchestvo festival - the only architectural review covering the whole of Russia.
