The sports complex is planned to be built next to the Grand Canyon shopping and entertainment complex, which is located near the Prospekt Prosvescheniya metro station. According to the plan, a small sports cluster should be formed, since an indoor skating rink is adjacent to the site, and there is a fitness center in the shopping center itself.

The new facility has three parts. The first is the "flat" scope of the sports school for the preparation of the Olympic swimming pool under the leadership of Viktor Avdienko. It includes several swimming pools, including two 50-meter ones, enclosed in stained glass "boxes" and covered with skylights with structural glazing. The chief architect of the project, Marina Kazantseva, said that in this way the authors sought to achieve the feeling of air, as well as open a "view of the water" from the public spaces of the complex. On the second floor there is a cafe, a kitchen and a dining room, on the third floor there are stands for spectators, coaches and a fitness complex. The fourth floor is technical, from which you can go to the roof, where there is a tennis court and a playground for outdoor sports.

The administrative tower rises directly above the lobby, accentuating the entrance. The first five floors are occupied by a medical center and hotel rooms, the rest are offices. Stained glass facades are "diluted" with colored glass and lamellas, which are illuminated at nightfall. The same technique is present in the design of swimming pools and parking, collecting them into one complex.

Most experts agreed that in this part of the city, at the intersection of Engels and Suzdal Avenue, a high-rise dominant is needed. So far, its role is played by the CHP pipe. Evgeny Podgornov considered that 75 meters might not be enough against the background of the Severnaya Dolina residential complex, which rises behind the Grand Canyon.

Pools aroused the most questions: it seemed to many that with such a volume of glazing it would be difficult to cope with the sun, glare and heat. Several people immediately suggested replacing trusses and lanterns with glued timber structures, such as in

Palace of Sports in Kazan.

Also, members of the City Council were not impressed by the "many themes" of the facades and their design in general. Sergey Oreshkin believes that in a place with such a flow of cars it is necessary to build a real "Landmark", but colored lamellas will not save the matter. He was supported by Vladimir Grigoriev: “have we really lost the ability to evoke positive feelings with the quality of architecture, and not with color”. He rated the work as "thesis", but this was perhaps the harshest assessment. The majority were in favor of accepting the project after its completion.

LCD in the alignment of Iskrovsky prospect

The author of the project, Alexander Zyuzin, impressed the experts with a “deep urban planning analysis” that preceded the design development. The residential building will be built in the historic district of the Vesely settlement, in the alignment of Iskrovsky Prospekt, where it intersects with Telman Street. The massive development of the area began in the late 1960s, according to the general plan of that time, Iskrovsky Prospekt was supposed to "close" a house that was never built. Now the territory is quite chaotic: box garages, car service, "Maksidom" and "Pyaterochka".

The architects from "Parity Group" decided to complete what they had begun: their project was inspired by "the style of Soviet modernism with a bias towards brutalism" and is very reminiscent of

CFT house on Novosmolenskaya embankment, but in modern materials. Two usual multi-storey volumes pass into the “main” stepped building, which is cut in the center and exactly along the axis of Iskrovsky Prospekt by a high “arch” bounded by a thin three-storey lintel.

This "negative dominant", as Svyatoslav Gaykovich called it, did not leave anyone indifferent. Experts suggested building it up or expanding it, making the lintel more massive or exceeding residential floors. In general, the project received such assessments as "sharp", "unusual", "outstanding", many were glad of the appeal to modernism. From the comments: flaws with insolation and fire regulations, a playground in the yard, which is not completely free of cars, the possibility of drafts. Vladimir Grigoriev reacted to the latter with his characteristic spontaneity: “Well it is blowing. Just do it ".

Architect Stepan Lipgart defended the project of a house for a small plot, which is located at the confluence of the Black River and Bolshaya Nevka. The site turned out to be difficult. On it stands the building of the Imperial Orphanage, which KGIOP did not recognize as valuable. And next to it is a federal cultural heritage site, Golovin's wooden dacha, built by Ludwig Charlemagne in the 1820s. Also in the neighbors are the Riverside residential complex and the Riviere Noire residential complex under construction, both designed by the INTERCOLOMNIUM bureau.

Both the architect and the client felt that the orphanage should be preserved. But since it is located quite inconveniently for the developer, it was decided to make it a "wing" of Golovin's dacha and move it to the red line of Vyborgskaya embankment - along the rails. Such technology, according to Vladimir Grigoriev, costs about three times less than disassembly and subsequent restoration.

The new building of four sections stretches along the Chernaya River, and opens onto the Bolshaya Nevka water area as a stepped “end”, descending towards the Orphanage and Golovin's dacha, which creates a “buffer” between them and the high-rise buildings and a “spatial pause” in the panorama of the Vyborg embankment.

The facade overlooking the Black River meets the calm and restrained architecture of the Riviere Noire residential complex, it has a straighter cornice. The expressiveness of the facade is achieved, according to Stepan Lipgart, through the use of an arc - "an archetypal Petersburg solution that conveys the expression of overcoming, in tune with water." Some of the elements come out cantilevered, some sink, which also enriches the plastic. At the same time, the task of the new house is to become the backstage for two historic buildings and "propylaea" for the Black River.

Members of the City Council actively discussed the project already during the architect's speech. As it turned out, many were excited by the reception with the rails and the exit to the red line.

The architecture of the house was generally accepted with enthusiasm: there is not enough such emotionality in the city, the solution is fresh, I would like to keep it. But the rest of the project was considered impossible.

First of all, the experts were outraged by the exit to the red line, despite the fact that all buildings from the Kantemirovsky bridge to Ushakovsky are slightly retreating from it. Thus, the new building and the orphanage "are dramatically falling forward in a fragmented form," and oppressing a truly valuable architectural monument - Golovin's dacha.

Evgenia Gerasimova was intrigued by the opportunity to move the historic building within its site. Someone in the hall asked if he needed this to move the Dostoevsky Museum. Vladimir Grigoriev explained that there is no ban on the transfer of a building within the site, but each such case is coordinated by KGIOP separately, and “it is methodologically difficult to understand KGIOP”. Evgeny Gerasimov suggested that if the project is approved, applications will fall down. For example, it will finally be possible to arrange the corner of Karpovka and Kamennoostrovsky prospect.

During the discussions, we came to the conclusion that any construction is generally unacceptable on this site. As Mikhail Kondiain said, "an architect can turn inside out, but it is impossible to make a good gradation on these squares."
