The church will appear in the Sydhavn area, in the currently reconstructed port area, on the bank of the canal. Formally, the building goes back to the typology of the ziggurat - an ancient Eastern religious structure in the form of a stepped pyramid. Ideologically, the modern "House of God" is focused not only on the religious needs of the population of Copenhagen. The building was originally conceived also as a place of cultural leisure for the townspeople, whose number is constantly growing. The goal of the project is to create a harmonious, spiritually charged space designed both for intimate privacy and for open communication. Therefore, a significant place here is reserved for recreational areas: they are available to everyone, when church services and rituals are not held in the building.
The structure is designed in such a way that the movement along the spiral ramps leading to the roof opens up wonderful views of the city and the harbor at different height levels, making them a public domain.
The upward movement is provided not only outside, but also in the interior. The light colonnade echoes the perimeter of the facades, forming a gallery permeated with light with many passages to the inside of the building. The spiral path provides access to all functional areas of the church, bypassing the main entrance. The terraces are lined with a variety of places for comfortable seclusion, facilitating the flow of thoughts and allowing you to take a break for contemplation and reflection.
More "extroverted" rooms and areas (main entrance, cafes, lively cultural spots) are concentrated on the lower level, while the main worship hall is at the very top.
The universal unifying element of the building is water - both as an obvious Christian symbol and as a reference to the harbor and its embankment. Water becomes an integral part of the architectural solution, forming a series of pools and creating a through movement of flows from the top of the church roof to the very bottom - to the canal. Water scenarios will change depending on the weather. For example, a downpour will overwhelm the bowls of the pools and create spectacular waterfalls along the church facades, and under the canopy of the colonnade you can hide from any bad weather, contemplating the flowing streams and surrounding landscapes or practicing poetry.
