The decision to expand the office coincided with the 20th anniversary of NVIDIA, one of the largest developers of video cards and processors for them. The new headquarters will be built in Santa Clara, on a 9.7-hectare site close to the company's current headquarters. Following the corporations Apple, Google and Facebook, NVIDIA has chosen an extremely "futuristic" design: the appearance and equipment of such a building will clearly demonstrate the customer's commitment to technological progress.
The complex, designed by Gensler, will consist of two buildings of the same area (a total of 46 thousand m2), in terms of having the shape of equilateral triangles. This geometry was not chosen by chance: it is the triangle that is the main element of three-dimensional computer graphics. By the way, the designers put it in the basis of the internal planning of buildings, which made it possible to make them as flexible as possible. The roofs of the volumes are assembled from glass triangles: the architects join them in such a way that the roof surface acquires small bulges. And if the "hills" themselves are formed by photocells, then between them is inscribed a skylight of the atrium, which, naturally, also has a triangular shape.
The new headquarters are supposed to be built in two phases: the first building will begin construction in June this year and should be commissioned in 2015. The second building is designed "for growth": the company will start its implementation only after the area of the first building has been exhausted.
