The results of the next competition of fantastic skyscraper designs, which the eVolo magazine has been holding for the 14th time, have been summed up. This year, the organizers received 478 projects from participants from all over the world. The contestants' fantasy, by tradition, was not limited to anything. The main task was to challenge today's trends in high-rise construction and present their vision of the skyscraper of tomorrow. This year, all three prize-winning projects are dedicated to solving environmental problems.
Grand Prize went to the project of a vertical polygon area on the left bank of the Danube in Belgrade. According to the author, Marko Dragicevic, the new city structure will solve two problems at once that are relevant for all megacities - waste disposal and space saving. A large-scale landfill specializing in "plastic" pollution, due to its height, will not take up much space.
In second place - a skyscraper built around a huge air purifier with a complex filtration system. The estimated height of the tower is 800 meters. The residential part is located at a level of 400 meters and above - above the level of smog. There are also gardens that saturate the air with oxygen and allow residents to relax "in nature" without leaving their homes. The project is designed for Beijing, whose population is projected to increase by 30% over the next 15 years. This determines the height of the building and its capacity - 7,500 residents. Authors - Marek Grodzicki and Claudia Golaszewska from Poland.
Third place received a skyscraper, whose inhabitants are endangered animals. It is proposed to set up a research center here, but the main thing is to provide the animals with living conditions as close as possible to natural conditions. Again, the creation of such a nature reserve, if it were not vertical, would require large areas, and the main advantage of the skyscraper is its compactness.
