This 10-storey building, designed by the architect Edouard François, could be classified as typical, if not for the original technique: all the balconies surrounding the building are filled with huge bamboo pots. A total of 380 concrete tanks with soil are connected by a single system of irrigation and fertilization for plants, so residents do not need to spend time caring for the unusual decor of the house.
The use of live bamboo is a reference to Rudolf Schindler's Los Angeles home (1921) or the Parc de la Villette by Alexander Schemetoff and Bernard Chumi. But, at the same time, it is not only and not so much an original gesture of a fashionable architect, but also a completely new solution to the problem of decorating the facade of residential buildings for the middle class and greening city streets.
This is not the first time François has attempted to use plants to decorate the exterior of his buildings. Five years ago, in a project for an even cheaper apartment building in Montpellier (the so-called "sprouting building"), he envisioned a roof that mimics a rock. And soon wild flowers and herbs grew between the stones poured into the steel structures under the rays of the southern sun.
