This conceptual project is intended to draw public attention to the problems existing in the area, and should also show the possibilities of algorithmic / parametric architecture in solving practical problems. Dmytro Aranchii Architects have long been interested in the issue of renovating the carriage depot of Kiev-Passenger station and the adjacent territory, and it got its concrete embodiment in the diploma work of an employee of the workshop Vyacheslav Kirpach, which he defended at the architectural faculty of KNUSA.
Now the railway tracks and the depot cut off from each other two neighboring microdistricts - Chokolovki and the Polytechnic Institute, therefore, despite the insecurity and “uncomfortable” of this space, residents cross it at their own peril and risk - to save time.
In the future, it is proposed to turn this territory into a park with a stadium replacing the outdated CSKA arena. It is also planned, instead of the existing home-made track for extreme cycling, to arrange a full-fledged track and a modern BMX site, to create a reservoir with a beach that will remind of the Lybid River hidden under the ground, to build an educational complex and a museum of steam locomotives (underground with glass ceilings).
All objects are located in block-cells, the height of which "pulsates" - from low earthen embankments to buildings and the highest structures - mesh structures for nesting birds.
For those citizens who do not have time to walk along the paths of the park, but need to quickly cross its territory - heading from Chokolovka to the Polytechnic Institute, or vice versa - a network of bridges with translucent shells is arranged at ground level.
The configuration of these aerial passages was obtained by emulating the movement of flocks of birds; the resulting routes take into account the logic of the swarm intelligence and the patterns of behavior of living beings. In addition to this, the use of the third coordinate made it possible to create a network of bridges that provides a close to optimal ratio of time and distance covered, necessary for travel from one area to another.
