Alice Walton, daughter of company founder Sam Walton, has already established herself in the art market as a prominent collector of American painting. Now she plans to exhibit her collection in a new museum designed by Moshe Safdie.
The exhibition complex will be located in Bentonville, Arkansas, where the corporation's headquarters are also located.
"Crystal Bridges", as the museum will be called, are two glazed galleries over an artificial lake. They are planned for almost 10,000 square meters. m of exhibition space. Around 40.5 hectares of park will be laid out according to the plan of landscape design bureau Peter Walker. To enter the complex, visitors will have to take a fifteen-minute walk from the city center.
The ensemble will include a number of buildings with corrugated or glass roofs, through which clumps of trees and the sky will be visible. The architect himself said that his desire was to create the effect of experiencing art in a natural environment. To do this, he created a network of indoor and outdoor spaces, so the museum visitor will never lose sight of the surrounding park.
