Pise House - Architectural Competition

Photo: www.nkafoundation.org

Photo: www.nkafoundation.org The aim of the competition is to design a residential home for a middle-income family in central Ghana's Ashanti region. The size of the house must not exceed 30 by 40 feet (approximately 9 by 12 meters), and the cost excluding the cost of the site is $ 6,000. Competitors will need to design a traditional clay and earth building for this region. It may seem that a dwelling made of clay is primitive and outdated, but this is not so. Today, laterite, the red tropical earth, is even used for public buildings: airports, embassies, hospitals and museums. This kind of natural material is absolutely environmentally friendly; it also has excellent heat and sound insulating properties.

EURegeneration - architectural idea competition

Photo: www.awrcompetitions.com

Photo: www.awrcompetitions.com In the 1930s, in Rome, on the orders of Mussolini, construction began on a new area - EUR (EUR - Esposizione Universale di Roma), where it was planned to hold the International Exhibition of 1942. For obvious reasons, the ambitious plans of the Duce were not destined to be realized, and they managed to finish the area only by the 1960 Olympics in Rome.

In the EUR region, there is a site with three 18-storey and two 4-storey buildings, which formerly housed the Italian Ministry of Finance. Now only skeletons remain of the buildings, which the contestants will use as the basis for a multifunctional complex with an eco-hotel. The height and structure of the buildings must remain unchanged. You need to design facades, floors and connecting elements-transitions between the buildings. An important point - the new complex should "react" to the Massimiliano Fuksas congress center, which is being built nearby.
