Gehry has been a member of the board of trustees of SCI-Arc - the South California Institute of Architecture - since 1990, but has been actively involved in the life of the university since its foundation in 1972: as a lecturer, member of the certification committee, etc. He and his wife Bertha donated 100 to the institute. 000 dollars, which formed the basis of the new Gehry Award. Rem Koolhaas, on the other hand, was himself awarded the Charles Jenks Prize for architecture theorist. It is awarded annually by the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) for recent major international contributions to the practice and theory of architecture. According to Jenks himself, Koolhaas, more than any other architect of his generation, "leads a parallel life in the theory and practice of architecture." This was reflected in the existence of his two complementary bureaus OMA and AMO, which divided between themselves the actual design and cultural problems associated with architecture.
The awards ceremony will take place in London on 20 November 2012, at the same time as Rem Koolhaas's lecture with an introduction by Charles Jenks. Previously, the winners of this award were Eric Owen Moss, Zaha Hadid, Stephen Hall, FOA, UNStudio and other architects and workshops.
