Museum of the polar ship "Fram", where Nansen and Amundsen sailed to the North and South Poles, stands on the shores of the Bygdøy peninsula in Oslo. Together with the Kon-Tiki Museum, he meets those arriving by water tram along the smooth surface of the fjord from the city center - the pier is very close.
The Fram Museum was expanded several times, and now we are talking about the fourth volume - but the first curvilinear (the other three are triangles in cross-section). Like its predecessors, the "Future" hull will be mainly built of wood and will stretch perpendicular to the water. Only the foundation will be concrete, and the facade facing the fjord and greenery will be glass.
Inside will be located: in the back - exhibition halls connected by transitions with the exposition in other parts of the building, at the transparent facade - spaces for events, as well as a cafe with an open-air amphitheater, which can be used as spectator seats. A covered auditorium is also provided.
An important aspect of the project is the transformation of the formerly private coastline into a public one: now the visitors of the complex have access to water.
