Out of 579 projects submitted, the VELUX International Award (IVA) architecture jury selected ten regional winners and one honorable mention. World winners will be selected from regional winners during the World Architecture Festival (WAF).
Copenhagen, September 14, 2020 - An international architectural jury evaluated 579 projects submitted by 250 architecture universities from 60 countries. The jury this year included:
Odile Dec, Studio Odile Decq (France), Nora Demeter, Demeter Design Studio (Hungary), Sebastian Adamo, Adamo-Faiden Architects (Argentina), Yuri Troy, Juri Troy Architects (Austria), Martin Pors Jespen, VELUX A / S (Denmark).
The projects were presented in two categories: "Daylight in buildings" and "Daylight research". The jury selected regional winners in each category during online sessions from 6 to 8 July 2020.
The jury noted the high level of involvement of the participants in solving environmental, social, cultural and political problems of the present time, to find answers to which the students suggested using daylight.
Martin Pors Jespen, VELUX A / S, commented: “In their work, students reflect the architectural heritage of their region, as well as touch upon the social and environmental themes inherent in the entire society. This reflects the truly global nature of the competition."
The projects demonstrate the deep immersion of students and their mentors in natural light issues. The topics of the competition were included in the educational program of a number of educational institutions. The projects reflect the versatility of directions and ideas for using natural light as an essential part of our life.
“It was great to see how in many projects daylight is an important part of architecture. Not only from a technical point of view, but also how it affects our world,”said Juri Troy, Juri Troy Architects.
The projects of the regional winners convey a comprehensive approach to natural light issues, embrace modern technologies, futuristic concepts, reflect the fundamental aspects of architecture and space.
