Are you an architecture student and love daylight in architecture? You have the opportunity to show your vision of the role of natural light in architecture. International Architecture Competition IVA 2020 announces registration open.

The competition aims to inspire future architects to explore the theme of natural light and consider its role in our lives as an essential source of light, life and energy in buildings.

“This award is a great opportunity for students to get acquainted with the concept and format of the architectural competition. Our goal is to challenge the future of daylight in architecture by inspiring future leading architects to be creative,”says Per Arnold Andersen, head of the award's organizing committee.

The competition is held in two categories: 1) daylight in buildings and 2) daylight studies.

In June 2020, a jury of eminent architects, including members of the International Union of Architects (UIA), will meet to review all announced projects and select 5 regional winners in each category. The ten regional winners will then personally present their projects to a jury, which will select one winner in each of the two categories.

“If I were a student participating in this competition, I would start with nature and science. Light exists in all forms of art - in literature, cinema, photography, painting. Everything is connected with light. I would draw inspiration from poetry and art. From things outside of architecture,”says Li Hu, founding partner of OPEN Architecture and one of the five jury members for the 2018 VELUX International Prize.

The prize fund of the Prize is 30,000 euros. The award ceremony will take place in December 2020.

To take part in the competition, you must be a student of an architecture school or university, apply to participate at iva.velux.com and submit your project for competition by June 15, 2020.

Each submitted project must have a curator - an architectural teacher who will provide support to the participant. Both participants will be named winners - both the student and his curator.
