“This award is a great opportunity for students to get acquainted with the concept and format of the architectural competition. Our goal is to challenge the future of daylight in architecture by inspiring future leading architects to be creative,”says Per Arnold Andersen, head of the award's organizing committee.

The competition is held in two categories: 1) daylight in buildings and 2) daylight studies.

In June 2018, a jury of eminent architects, including members of the International Union of Architects (UIA), will meet to review all submitted projects and select 5 regional winners in each category. The ten regional winners will then personally present their projects to a jury, which will select one winner in each of the two categories.

Omar Gandhi, who was a member of the jury in 2016, gave this advice to future participants: “Look around. The point is not to go to some extraordinary place or to the other end of the world. Look around you, whether it's a city or a suburb. There are enough everyday questions and problems to be solved. Research that is honest and relevant to you is what the jury is looking for."

The prize fund of the Prize is 30,000 euros. The award ceremony will take place in October 2018.

To take part in the competition, you must be a student of an architecture school or university, apply to participate in

iva.velux.com and submit your project for competition by June 15, 2018.

Each submitted project must have a curator - an architectural teacher who will provide support to the participant. Both participants will be named winners - both the student and his curator.

The overall theme of the VELUX IVA 2018 International Architecture Competition is the Light of the Future.
