These institutions will be housed in the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center, to be built by 2015 in the Athens seaside suburb of Faliron Delta. For the library, the architect chose a traditional planning solution, while the theater project, on the contrary, will include the latest achievements in the field of acoustics, stage machinery, etc., necessary for modern opera and ballet performances.
The new building will be self-sufficient in terms of resources used: solar panels and wind turbines will be installed on its roof. Around the park of Stavros Niarchos will be laid out, and a canal connected to the sea will run along the building: it will not only revive this recreational area, but will protect the building from the risk of flooding during a flood.
According to the customers, the Cultural Center with a budget of 450 million euros should become “the new urban symbol of Athens”.
