As we have already reported, the winner of the closed architectural competition for the development of the concept for the development of the Moscow Museum of Fine Arts (The Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts) was the Project Meganom bureau and Yuri Grigoryan. The post-release of the Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts, distributed today, says that "Sergey Skuratov Architects" took the second place by the results of the jury vote, and TPO "Reserve" - the third. Yesterday, after a "difficult and lengthy" jury session (see below for the composition of the jury), Moscow's chief architect Sergei Kuznetsov, museum director Marina Loshak and head of the Moscow Heritage Committee Alexander Kibovsky told reporters about the results of the judging and the motives of the jury. Among other things, it was announced that the winning concept would be refined.

According to Sergei Kuznetsov, it was the attentive attitude to the context and to the museum's development program that brought Yuri Grigoryan's project to the first place: “The winner's project demonstrated the most sparing attitude towards the environment. We were also bribed by the skillful work with the organization of public spaces. An important factor was the thoughtfulness of the general concept of the development of the territory, in which a phased implementation of restoration work becomes possible. Nevertheless, I cannot fail to note that all projects, including the winning project, have received a lot of comments, so it is obvious that the chosen concept will require substantial revision,”concluded Sergey Kuznetsov.

Meanwhile, today the Arkhnadzor movement has spread

a statement in which city defenders support the winning concept, primarily because it provides for a complete rejection of the demolition of cultural heritage and historical buildings, and also preserves the historical land survey of estates (the previous concept of Norman Foster, - it is specified there, - immediately threatened several significant objects: the back wings of the Golitsyn estate and the Glebov estate, as well as a gas station in the 1930s - an identified cultural heritage site).

The director of the Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts Marina Loshak called Yuri Grigoryan's project intelligent: “The subject of this competition was not even drawings, we hoped to find an architect whose imaginative understanding of space would be consonant with our idea of an ideal museum complex. Yuri Grigoryan turned out to be such a person. He proposed an approach in which the entire museum quarter, filled with very dissimilar buildings dating back to different times, becomes a single interconnected complex. At the same time, the town of the Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts is unlike any of the existing museum towns in the world. Yuri Grigoryan made him special, identical and recognizable."

Sergey Skuratov's project, on the other hand, differs from the other two in greater courage. The main museum building is surrounded by three "museum quarters", each with its own logistics center, so that each of the three new museum centers can function autonomously. The project involves a developed underground space with many transport and pedestrian communications; next to the underground parking area of 6000 sq. m, a new exit from the metro is being created, above which Sergey Skuratov has placed a multifunctional pavilion (7000 sq. m). In the author's description, Skuratov called the new large building in the ensemble of the Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts "a deliberate and decisive gesture", "restrained and tactful", but "bright and energetic."

Meanwhile, according to the jury members who spoke at the press conference, Sergey Skuratov's beautiful, bold and absolutely self-sufficient project could not claim victory, since it assumed the demolition of architectural monuments. Alexander Kibovsky told reporters that he personally, as a member of the jury, did not consider Skuratov's project, preferring concepts in which "a gas station, like other monuments, turns out to be an integral part of the museum quarter."

According to Marina Loshak, she appreciated the position of Sergei Skuratov, a very principled person, confident that the significance of a new architectural project is no less, and perhaps more important, than the preservation of the historical heritage. A minus, for all the architectural merits of the project, the jury also considered the proposal for the development of vast underground areas, which, as Sergei Kuznetsov specified, would inevitably lead to a significant increase in the cost of the project.

The jury also appreciated Vladimir Plotkin's project very highly: one of the speakers even said that the “Reserve” concept lost only in terms of the total number of votes. A special role in this project is played by the landscape solution of public spaces, linking the separate buildings of the museum into a single ensemble. The territory is dominated by pedestrians - a special emphasis is placed on the paving, which is located at the same level throughout the entire space of the museum town, without drops, with a varied pattern, but subordinate to the general idea (the paving pattern is detailed and goes back to the ornament of the floors of the Klein museum building) The buildings of the museum storage and new exhibition halls (which, as in other projects, are located in the eastern part of the territory, in the courtyards behind the Church of Antipius) are designed in the form of rectangular bars of different lengths placed on top of each other, but with a common cross section of 6x9 meters - this The authors developed the module by studying the space of the halls of the historical building of the Pushkin Museum. Paving, as the main unifying element of the museum town, is included in the first floors of the new buildings.

Marina Loshak emphasized that the project of Vladimir Plotkin is distinguished by special subtlety and delicacy, the author is especially sensitive to the environment, saturating it with a huge number of plants, lamps and urban furniture. Loshak even used these strengths of the TPO "Reserve" concept in further refinement of the winner's concept.

*** As you know, the participants of the competition were tasked with proposing a concept for the creation of a modern museum complex on the territory of the Pushkin Museum, united by comfortable public spaces. At the same time, it was necessary to take into account the concept of the museum development previously developed by Avesta Group Consultancy. One of the most important evaluation criteria was the careful attitude to the architectural monuments on the site and the delicate incorporation of new objects into the historical environment of Volkhonka Street, along which the museum town is located.

Currently, the museum is already in the process of restoration, work is underway in the building of the Institute of Philosophy, which will house the best collection of the Impressionists, the Vyazemsky building, which will house the gallery of old masters, and the Stulov house in Znamensky Lane. According to the results of the competition, the winner becomes the head and chief architect of the project for the development of the museum quarter, which is planned to be implemented by 2020.
