Alexander Dmitrievich Larin is a master of post-war modernism, about whose architecture there is an opinion that it "rather fits into the context of Western architecture than Soviet and post-Soviet".
Its architecture is distinguished by thaw subtlety, lightness and transparency, and at the same time, bold work with form. Probably the most famous building of Alexander Larin is a pharmacy in the form of a large red cross in Orekhovo-Borisovo, designed and implemented by him together with Evgeny Ass.
Perhaps one of the most interesting features of Alexander Larin's work is small author's buildings in typical microdistricts, kindergartens or a children's library on Ilyich Square: on the one hand, they bring a bit of the individual to the standard building, on the other hand, they respond to the context despite it, it seemed would, of little value.
One of the notable early buildings of the architect is the Choreographic Academy on 2nd Frunzenskaya, a thinly traced horizontal building with a spacious courtyard.
Alexander Larin took part in many competitions, including international ones - his joint project with Viktor Lebedev for the Pompidou Center was among the 39 awarded in Paris in 1969.
In the early 2000s, Alexander Larin worked together with Alexander Asadov, in particular, on the fitness center"
Olympic Star Kuntsevo on Rublevskoe highway.
Andrey Asadov: “Alexander Dmitrievich Larin became my second teacher after my father. But if my father - the architect Alexander Asadov - inspired me with the boldness of forms and the power of gesture, Larin acted gradually, at first glance, completely imperceptibly, but persistently cultivating an "organic" approach to architecture. “…” “Architecture should be invisible” is one of Larin's favorite expressions. Most likely, this phrase hid the concept of absolutely appropriate architecture, as if it was here from the beginning. At the same time, inconspicuousness did not deny innovative architectural ideas, but gave them the highest degree of naturalness, if only it had grown so!"
Sergey Skuratov: “I have never met such a dedicated architect in my life. His dedication to his cause and responsibility to people and the environment in which he works are unique, his conviction in the correctness of the chosen decision and courage in his defense are admirable. Passion, ingenuity and eccentricity of his thinking create a wonderful atmosphere of common creativity."
You can get acquainted with the work of Alexander Larin in more detail thanks to the monograph published by the Tatlin publishing house in 2011 (it was from it that the above quotes were borrowed), and video recordings of a meeting with the architect at the Central House of Arts:
Farewell to Alexander Larin will take place on Monday, January 27 at 11.00 in the House of Architects.
