The award ceremony for the Sixth Architecture Biennale at the XXIII annual exhibition Arch Moscow 2018 was held this Saturday, in the conference hall of the Central House of Artists on Krymsky Val. The ceremony was hosted by Vasily Bychkov, the permanent head of the Arch of Moscow, Ilya Mukosey, the curator of the exhibition, and Vladimir Kuzmin, one of the heads of the design bureau Pole-design, - it was he who remarked: it is possible that Arch Moscow is taking place in the Central House of Artists for the last time, which makes it in a sense, a jubilee.
Architect of the Year
The passing title went to Totan Kuzembaev, and a lot of warm words sounded in his address: "a man in the profession", "an architect who has no equal in the skill of working with such material as wood" - just a few of them. Totan Kuzembaev will have to present a personal exposition at the next Biennale. The award in the nomination takes place every two years, this year 22 architects from the Arch Catalog participated in the voting, which includes the best architects of the country according to the organizers of the exhibition.
The main theme of the XXIII exhibition was renovation in all its manifestations: redevelopment, reconstruction, restoration … However, the nominations turned out to be very different - in other words, the festival jury came up with quite a lot of new wording for diplomas. This, according to Vasily Bychkov, is the main feature of Arch-Moscow – the exhibition is “more about people, about their contribution”.

The project-manifesto is dedicated to the redevelopment of old landfills in Columbaria for the sake of cheap burials: in Moscow and the region, about 200,000 people die a year, about 561 a day. And degassed, that is, no longer poisoned and smelling landfills, are an ideal place to place columbariums, especially since landfills in Moscow now occupy twice as much space as cemeteries. In addition, relatives will plant vegetation, and if you explain which one to them, the plants will gradually clear the former landfills.
Realizing that not everyone will willingly accept the idea of burying in a landfill, the authors cite the example of a fiery Gehenna, constantly smoldering outside the wall of Jerusalem, a landfill turned into a cemetery: "… in history, garbage does not interfere with the arrangement of cemeteries, when there is a motive," and emphasize the cheapness of the solution …
The project is replete with textual explanations on the edges of a white cube that carries a layout similar to
the Eisenman Holocaust memorial, and gives several examples.

The architects first presented the large-scale project of the bureau for the conversion of a monorail track into a sports park at Arch Moscow. The project is the result of serious research work, and the very proposal for rebuilding the monorail into a recreational park area deserves attention, - the jury of the exhibition noted.

The jury noted the exposition for the originality of presentation, interactivity and technical complexity. The bureau is 10 years old and it celebrated its anniversary with an installation on thin legs, for some reason (or something) reminiscent of the project for the reconstruction of the Badayevsky plant. The legs carried a frame with triangular prisms, from one side of which at times a wonderful landscape in the spirit of Poussin formed, while the other sides turned into something dark and perforated, like the structure of modern building bricks.

The largest stand of the architectural exposition hall consisted of a large, "development type" model of the Slavutich residential complex, inforgraphics dedicated to missile defense apartments, and an announcement of a media project "to help students and architects."

The stand stood out for its laconicism and "secret", a portrait of David Bowie in a specially fenced-off dead end. The authors, a bureau well known in Kazakhstan, focused so much on the concept that they did not seem to fix the tablets with their works on the wall right away.

ArchiStudio exhibitions, held for many years in hall 14h on the second floor, 3 times to the right, are almost invariably distinguished by an interesting concept, beautiful presentation and a set of authentic items, for which they usually receive diplomas of the Arch of Moscow. This time, the traditionally excellent work of Venetian masters with glass was shown here, and all the days the master was sitting at the exhibition, carving drawings on glass with the help of a buzzing machine.

Archigraphy is permanently exhibited at Arch Moscow during the voting of its jury or immediately after, and then presents awards in June. This year there was also a curatorial choice in the exposition, and the exhibition turned out to be voluminous and vibrant due to the variety of works and approaches.
