Residential quarter No. 11 is one of three residential areas, which are currently being sold at Skolkovo. Archi.ru has already written about the 10th quarter adjacent to it, the work of the UNK project bureau; for quarter No. 9 the workshop "BRT RUS" is responsible. All three projects are the result of an architectural competition that ended in 2012.
The architects of Agence d'Architecture Anthony Bechu based their project on the principles of safety and energy efficiency. The houses there are arranged in a spiral, which is inspired by the movement of a flock of penguins during a snowstorm, when the birds gradually change places, now finding themselves on the edge of a densely standing group, then in its center. So single-family houses in the 11th quarter are protected from the "sea of parks and forests" around, as well as from the wind. Within the boundaries of a common spiral, they are located in "clusters" around the courtyards. A well-thought-out orientation to the cardinal points made it possible to protect the interiors from the sun in the summer and "catch" the maximum sun rays in the winter, as well as to provide natural ventilation in the houses. Landscaping includes rainwater harvesting and sustainable drainage systems.
There are 10 types of houses in the quarter, and two types of foundations and 4 upper modules were used to create them. At the same time, all buildings received a triple spatial orientation, which gave both a variety of views from the windows and better illumination of the premises.
In the center of the block there is a square with a community center.
