Each wooden house from GOOD WOOD corporation is a matter of the legitimate pride of the owner. Such a home - comfortable, stylish, environmentally friendly, built with the latest technological advances - is pleasing to the eye and warms the soul. You couldn't imagine better! That is why GOOD WOOD decided to build such a house for itself instead of offices rented in various districts of the capital and the region.
However, GOOD WOOD Plaza was destined to become not only a common place of work for the corporation employees. The ideas of its creators were much more ambitious. Working in the wood construction market since 2005, GOOD WOOD has made a significant contribution to the study of the possibilities of wood. And by building her own office center in Zelenograd near Moscow, she decided to prove that this is one of the most modern building materials with a wide range of applications. A group of corporation architects got down to business: Elena Dubovenko, Ksenia Lotkova, Sergey Tishkin and Nadezhda Shiryaeva.
It was clear that the GOOD WOOD Plaza building should become the tallest wooden office center in Russia. Moreover, it is wooden not only outside, but also inside.
The main load of the building was taken by 60 columns with a section of 280x800 mm and 451 beams with a section of 180x390 mm made of glued laminated timber of the highest quality, manufactured at the own production of GOOD WOOD Corporation. Wooden struts, which resemble tree crowns in the structure of the building, have become an interesting detail. By the way, the glue from the Akzo Nobel concern, which holds the lamellas of the timber, meets the most serious environmental requirements: the content of substances harmful to human health does not exceed the level of pure wood.
However, it was GOOD WOOD's desire to preserve the environment that made the corporation somewhat give up its initial desire to use exclusively wood in construction - the basement of the office center is made of concrete. This made it possible not to change the different-height relief of the site and not to harm the root system of the trees growing nearby.
There was no disagreement about the materials that should be used in the construction of the office center of the company - the leader in wooden housing construction in Russia. However, not a single internal corporate idea regarding the external appearance of the building met such unanimity. Therefore, for the development of the design, the representatives of GOOD WOOD turned to one of the best design bureaus in Italy - MoDusArchitects, specializing in architecture and wood interiors.
Eminent European colleagues proposed for GOOD WOOD Plaza a wooden curtain facade with translucent structures and interspersed with colored beams. The project of architects Sandy Attia and Matteo Scagnol, undoubtedly, very clearly testified to the sphere of activity of the owners of the office center, but visually it was so heavy and cumbersome that it was rather overwhelming than inviting to sit comfortably inside. And besides, the facade from sunny Italy, despite the significant area of glazing, did not provide enough natural light in the building, apparently without taking into account the peculiarities of the Russian climate, assuming protection from the heat at noon hours. After several weeks of unsuccessful attempts to find a compromise, it became clear that GOOD WOOD was not on the way with the Italians.
Domestic talents came to the rescue. The corporation has announced a competition for Russian architects. They were asked to develop a facade design for an office center with an estimated area of 4482 sq. m based on the developed frame. It was necessary to focus on the use of wooden structures and to highlight an entrance group with a staircase. Color solutions were supposed to be functional and environmentally friendly.
GOOD WOOD received almost two dozen works in two weeks. The voting was carried out on the official pages of GOOD WOOD in social networks.
The winner was Kirill Tikhonov, an architect from Yaroslavl. The original spacious balcony above the entrance group, the dynamic rhythm and natural color of wooden structures, as well as huge windows resembling eyes wide open to the sky, won not only the absolute majority of voters, but also the chief designer of GOOD WOOD Plaza Alexander Prishchepenko. “The first thing I wanted to work with when I saw the assignment was color - the natural color of the tree,” says Kirill Tikhonov. - The second is reiki, they give the building austerity and set the rhythm, and the rhythm is not linear. Interesting work with the entrance group and other elements - it is emphasized that the building is wooden, but there is no feeling of roughness. The work of the Yaroslavl architect became the basis for the creation of the final design of the facade.
In its quest to demonstrate all the advantages of wood, GOOD WOOD Corporation has challenged the traditions of wooden housing construction. On January 30, 2016, the GOOD WOOD Plaza's height, which reached 19.754 meters, was recorded in the National Book of Records.
The permissible load on the supporting structures of the office center exceeds 80 tons, which is almost 2.5 times more than the required figure. The stock is not accidental - in the hope of revising the standards developed based on the results of tests half a century ago, GOOD WOOD included in the project the possibility of adding several floors later. In the meantime, there are three of them in the building, however, the height of each is six meters. The two upper floors are separated by a mezzanine that practically repeats the perimeter of the building.
The area of the wooden part of GOOD WOOD Plaza is 2880 square meters. But contrary to popular beliefs, the building is absolutely reliable from the point of view of fire safety. Tests carried out at TsNIISK named after V. A. Kucherenko, showed that the glued timber used in the construction is able to withstand the onslaught of fire for an hour and a half. However, all opportunities for emergency evacuation in the office center are also provided. Moreover, some - for example, two additional staircases - were added to the project already during the construction process.
It's incredibly easy to breathe in GOOD WOOD Plaza. Panoramic glazing with an area of more than 1.5 thousand square meters opens a view of the magnificent landscapes from anywhere in the office center. Its interior space is filled with natural light. In the attic of the building, the lighting is enhanced by 15 Velux skylights. In addition to their main function, they ventilate the room and save on air conditioning at night, as well as remove heat and smoke from the building in the event of a fire.
The GOOD WOOD Plaza building is one of the best examples of energy efficiency.
The use of multifunctional triple-glazed windows on the facade from AGC glass allows you to protect the premises from overheating in summer and heat loss in winter. There are 328 square meters of solar panels installed on the surface of the office center.
On the roof of the building there are 13 turbine roofing aerators manufactured at the Turbovent plant, which is the only one in Russia to produce energy-efficient roof ventilation systems for large buildings. Using wind energy, they ventilate the space under the roof as efficiently as possible and protect the roof from precipitation and condensation.
By the way, the slope of the GOOD WOOD Plaza roof is 7 degrees, which is not typical for public buildings (as a rule, they are built with flat roofs). Its area is 1210 square meters. For the covering, a gray Shinglas flexible tile from the Jive collection from the Technonikol company was chosen. The formation of fungus on it should be prevented by a thin strip of copper laid along the ridge and enriching the rainwater running down the slopes with metal ions.
Currently, glazing is being completed in GOOD WOOD Plaza, and the creation of interiors based on the open space principle with a large number of meeting rooms is being discussed. In addition to the work space, the office center provides a fitness center, a dining room with a full kitchen, a media center, a cinema room, and two spacious relaxation areas in the upper part of the building. The finishes and furnishings are supposed to use the best natural materials from Russian manufacturers.
GOOD WOOD plans to complete the construction of the office center by the end of 2017. After that, a large corporate family will gather here under one roof. In addition, GOOD WOOD Plaza will become a platform for demonstrating the latest achievements in wooden housing construction. Together with partners, GOOD WOOD will present all the variety of industry opportunities: from roofing materials to interior design. In particular, it is already known that the building will house the Color Trends pavilion of AkzoNobel, one of the trendsetters in color solutions in architecture.
The attention of specialists and the media has been riveted to the process of building GOOD WOOD Plaza from the first days. It is no coincidence that one of the largest events in the industry took place here at the beginning of March - the X Congress of the Association of Wooden Housing Construction, at which the office center received the highest praise from the professional community and government officials. Time will show whether this building will become a breakthrough in architecture, but there is no doubt that the vector of industry development has already been set for them for a decade ahead.
