This mobile facility will “travel” to 10 cities of the country from the summer of 2012 to the start of the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. The pavilion is intended for holding exhibitions, master classes, film festivals (the project provides for an open-air cinema). The purpose of this undertaking is to introduce the greatest possible number of Brazilians to the culture, as well as to unite the inhabitants of this or that city on the basis of communication with art. Also, together the townspeople will prepare for the arrival of the pavilion: a small garden will be laid out at the place chosen for it at each point of its route.
Grimshaw's project is inspired by Brazilian art, culture and the spirit of "tropical" modernism. Its design is subordinated to the requirements of logistics: the frame made of wooden beams can be easily and quickly assembled and disassembled, and a wide variety of configurations are possible - depending on the specific program of events (its total area is 500 m2). Floating floor panels and air-filled plastic balls symbolize Mobilizarte while providing natural ventilation.
