From 24 to 29 July, the GRAPHISOFT Summer School worked at the Moscow School of Architecture (MARSH). Participants of the course, organized in a new format, mastered the techniques of working in the recently released 21st version of ARCHICAD.

The training course was developed by certified teachers especially for the participants of the GRAPHISOFT-2017 Summer School. In six days, the listeners not only created a BIM model of a private residential building with Andrey Lebedev, but also performed visualizations using ARCHICAD under the leadership of Svetlana Kravchenko, a recognized specialist in the field of visualization at ARCHICAD® and GDL programming.

“Holding the Summer School, in addition to the already traditional Winter School, was actually a forced measure, because this winter we had such a flow of people willing to take the course that we simply could not accept everyone,” comments Maria Kalashnikova, GRAPHISOFT curriculum specialist® (Russia). “However, the number of participants in the Summer School quickly reached the maximum possible number, we did not even have to launch any additional advertising in the media to gather the audience.”

“It is not the first year that this event has been sold out, and this is an absolute indicator of great interest both in ARCHICAD itself and its new version, and in BIM design in general,” notes Yegor Kudrikov, head of the Russian representative office of GRAPHISOFT. - And here we really have something to talk about with the audience, because it was GRAPHISOFT that offered the world's first BIM solution for architects 35 years ago. Since then, we have been actively developing ARCHICAD, making it the most convenient and modern BIM tool for the designer."

The interest in the event has increased even more with the recent release of ARCHICAD 21, which, both in the opinion of the developer and in user reviews, turned out to be, perhaps, one of the most anticipated in the entire history of the program. Some of the innovations of the 21st version were really long-awaited, others were a pleasant surprise for the architects.

Thus, in the curriculum of the GRAPHISOFT-2017 Summer School, the most close attention was paid to the study of new tools. The audience is introduced to the technology for working with the updated Ladder tool, using the patented Predictive Design Technology, thanks to which the architect now has almost unlimited possibilities. The audience also highly appreciated the work of the completely new Fencing tool, noting its great potential and the huge number of tasks it covers.

The main objective of the course was to teach the correct logic of work in the program. And also setting up a Template for work, which allows you to create BIM projects in the shortest possible time, extract all the necessary information from them and publish it in all necessary formats.

The course materials and the author's Project Template from Andrey Lebedev were handed over to the students for further study and use in practical work.

“Thanks to the well-thought-out structure of the course, it was possible to consider a wide range of issues related to the construction of a conceptual model in ARCHICAD 21, design and publication of the project. In addition to the well-known settings for saving projections, the listeners learned in great detail the Graphical Override functions, which provide a high degree of variability in the presentation of project materials. When building the model, such innovations of ARCHICAD 21 as Ladder, Railings, Parameter Replacement and many others were actively used - I am sure that new tools and functions will firmly enter the daily workflow of the Summer School students. Since the 21st version has just been released, it was not possible to demonstrate more examples of work, but by the next School from GRAPHISOFT the necessary experience will be accumulated, which we will definitely share with new listeners."

On the last day of the training, certification for knowledge of ARCHICAD 21 was traditionally held. Certification was not mandatory, but many participants decided to try their hand at completing the test task. The results of those who have successfully passed the certification can be found on the official testing results page.

Feedback from course participants

Tatiana Dmitrievna Suleimenova, course listener, designer:

“For me, the goal of the course was mainly self-education. I am 57 years old, I have been professionally engaged in design for many years, I draw well with my hands, I make sketches in ARCHICAD and give them to my employees for revision, but I feel that I can do more.

Yes, some things took me longer than others, but it didn't bother me at all. I have mastered some blocks well, some will have to be thought over, but, in any case, I received answers to all those questions that I had.

Many thanks to teacher Andrey who shared with us very useful links to templates and libraries.

ARCHICAD is convenient because here you work with the BIM model and with the real dimensions of the elements, so the convenience from the point of view of ergonomics becomes immediately obvious. We must not just arrange objects, but do it functionally. And it is ARCHICAD that gives an understanding of space.

I did not regret the time spent on training, although every day I came to MARSH from Golitsyno. I now have three projects in which I can use new knowledge."

Alena Vladimirovna Mironenko, course student, designer, Address studio design studio (Ryazan):

“I decided to take part in the course in order to find out how correctly I understand the logic of the program and how competently I use its functions. I use ARCHICAD for the design of private houses, apartment interiors and public buildings, I form a complete package of documentation with all specifications and statements.

At the end of the course, I experience the most positive emotions, since now I will be able to use the capabilities of the program to the fullest. It became much clearer how, thanks to ARCHICAD, you can save your time, do creative things and develop further. Although before training I already had my own Project Template for work, now I have a much more complete and understandable picture."

Alexander Anatolyevich Lysov, course student, architect, architectural bureau White Studio (Moscow):

“I design a wide range of facilities: from apartments and private houses to sports facilities and public buildings and structures. At ARCHICAD, we develop everything - from concept to working drawings. The renderings are done by other specialists, but we often use a white model and 3D documents for submission.

I have a good knowledge of ARCHICAD, but I came to the Summer School to test myself and learn new techniques that would speed up the design process and optimize it.

In general, in the future I would like to train ARCHICAD."
