The competition once again confirmed its international status: it was attended by students not only from Russia, but also from Georgia, Belarus, Azerbaijan, Moldova and Ukraine. 129 works were presented, 103 of them passed the competitive selection. The themes of the nominations coincide with the themes of the projects that students carry out during their studies.

“This year, a lot of projects with high-quality architecture were submitted for the competition - all of them were appreciated by the jury and received high marks for the architectural component. However, some of the projects that were in the lead in the interim summarization phase lost leadership after the BIM component was scored. That is, the final score was formed in a 50:50 ratio of these two elements, - sums up the results of the competition, GRAPHISOFT educational institutions specialist Maria Kalashnikova. - In addition to evaluating the content and presentation, the work in the file itself and the use of ARCHICAD functions as a BIM application were assessed: the correct organization of the structure within the file, the use of View Parameters, Layouts, the correct use of Tools and Functions and, of course, one of the most important components of BIM- project - work with information.
BIM PROJECT 2019 Contest Winners
Nomination "Individual residential house"
Maxim Semenov (Moscow, NRU MGSU), "Passive House Russia"
Teachers: Zabalueva Tatyana Rustikovna, Zakharov Arkady Vasilievich
Jury comment: Modern challenges require modern solutions. And, of course, the presented work reflects the industry's need for energy efficient housing construction. Based on the analysis of normative data, characteristics of passive houses and existing construction experience, reflected in the work, spatial solutions are proposed that meet modern human needs. Architectural and planning decisions are made taking into account the results of the calculation of the energy balance of the building and translucent structures. To a lesser extent, engineering and technological solutions are reflected (the use of environmentally friendly materials, an assessment of exposure to physical or moral wear and tear, etc.). In general, the work deserves a high assessment, all the author's ideas are presented clearly and visually.
Member comment: Modern design for me is simply unthinkable without the use of BIM. ARCHICAD provides a comprehensive toolkit for creating a BIM project. The advantages of ARCHICAD are in maximum flexibility of modeling tools, convenient layout of project album layouts and sheet layouts themselves. In general, the advantage of ARCHICAD lies in the possibility of flexible application for solving various design problems: from designing small architectural forms to creating large complexes of buildings. In my passive house project for the Russian climate, I used Multilayer Structures, Complex Profiles and Solid Modeling Operations to clearly show the thermal outline and structure of the building in a 3D section. Subsequently, from the resulting model, it was easy to extract the volumes of required materials and the area of the building envelope for creating statements and assessing energy efficiency. My all-time favorite tool is Complex Profiles - they have a wide range of uses and often help create unique architectural details.

Nomination "Public building"
Bosak Victoria (Kazakhstan, Nur-Sultan, KazATU named after Saken Seifullin), "Hotel for 56 rooms with an equestrian club in Nur-Sultan"
Teachers: Hvan Alexander Maksimovich, Kabzhalelov Sayan Sagidollauly
Jury comment: This work is an example of the formation of a functional comfortable environment for human life. In addition to the main architectural, planning and technological solutions, the functional zoning of the building, the situational plan of the area, infrastructure, access to the presented territory are shown. In the paradigm of modern trends in increasing the thermal insulation properties of buildings, ventilated wooden facades are used, which enhance the architectural expressiveness of the object. All necessary and sufficient project data are presented in a coherent sequence.
Member comment: With each new version of ARCHICAD, I try to apply new tools and advantages of the program. In creating the facade of the project, I actively used Solid Modeling Operations and the Magic Wand tool, with the help of which I was able to reveal the architectural image of the building. Graphical Replacement has significantly reduced the time required to design a project - it is a very convenient tool for different ways of presenting diagrams and drawings. The correct organization of work through the Project Navigator was not ignored: as we know, order is important in design. Explosion diagram! In the competition work, an axonometric floor plan was placed, made in the form of a 3D document with a 3D section, which helped to demonstrate in detail the architectural elements and solutions. The facade rendering was created with CineRender with post-processing in Adobe Photoshop. Drawing output and layout on the tablet are also done in ARCHICAD. And the final and very favorite moment was the conclusion of the BIMx Hypermodel for the most effective presentation of the project.

Nomination "Multi-apartment residential building"
Kravchenko Nikita (Rostov-on-Don, DSTU), "Reconstruction of an industrial facility in an urban environment"
Jury commentary: Reconstruction of an industrial facility with a change in its functional purpose is another trend among the modern industry tasks for the reorganization of urban areas. In the presented project, in addition to architectural, planning and design solutions, there is a situational plan and a master plan that harmoniously fits the object into the surrounding landscape. There is also a scheme for the demolition and zoning of the object. At the same time, the work does not reflect such issues as ensuring accessibility for people with disabilities, data on the insolation of the facility are not provided. In general, the presentation of the project allows you to unambiguously understand the author's intention and the level of elaboration of solutions.
Member Comment: One of the most widely used ARCHICAD tools is the Curtain Wall tool. For me, this is perhaps the most interesting tool of all that were involved in the creation of the competition project. Various Model Views and Graphic Override Combinations were also used. In combination with Curtain Walls, they made it possible to very quickly and flexibly customize the visual display of the project at the stage of submission and at the same time load the working PC as little as possible.

Special prize in the category "Multi-apartment residential building"
Ivanov Daniil (Moscow, Moscow Architectural Institute), “NEW CITY TOWERS. Multifunctional residential complex"
Teacher: Morgunov Andrey Konstantinovich
Jury comment: The presented project undoubtedly reflects the high level of design of architectural forms in the field of high-rise construction. The architectural expressiveness of the composition of high-rise buildings is the main task of the author. Unfortunately, the presented data lacks the display of the situational plan or general plan containing the necessary parameters of access to the building and infrastructure; there are no engineering and technological solutions for the materials used, the roof plan is not shown, there are also no design characteristics for the energetically rational orientation of the object by the parts of the world and the wind rose. This object is difficult to assess in terms of compliance with human needs for the declared purpose of the building.
Member comment: I took part in this competition because, first of all, I wanted to test my level of knowledge of BIM technologies. At the same time, I had a great desire to participate in international competitions with promising students of my profession and thus evaluate my capabilities and strengths. In parallel, I was able to improve the missing BIM design skills in ARCHICAD, with the help of which the workflow became much more productive. By the way, I have been using this program for several years already, I have completed most of my projects in it, so I was very glad that GRAPHISOFT provides such opportunities for professional and personal growth. And, of course, I can say that the results inspire me to new achievements.
