Located in one of West Vancouver's most sought after residential areas, Gleneagles Drive Residence offers stunning Pacific Ocean views. The flat roof area of the multi-level building is 180 m² in total. For extensive landscaping, the ZinCo Sedum Carpet system is used, which is produced by its Canadian subsidiary ZinCo Canada Inc.

Three-tier green roof

All three parts of the roof with a roof pitch of 1 ° -7 ° are located at different levels, which created some difficulties for access. The basis for the landscaping was a reinforced concrete pavement with solid foam insulation and subsequent bituminous anti-root waterproofing of the roof.

The landscaping structure consists of several layers:

• protective moisture-accumulating mat SSM 45;

• drainage and storage element Floradrain® FD 25, the basis of a system that reliably regulates the water balance;

• system filter SF;

• the systemic structure "Sedum carpet" (in Canada - "Zincoblend-E"), which includes mineral and organic components corresponding to the selection of vegetation.

Landscaping was carried out with pre-treated mats containing various undersized sedum species such as white saxifrage, Mongolian sedum or Japanese pachisander. Yellow is the dominant color, giving the roof a light and clean look.

Well-groomed appearance

Extensive landscaping with these sedum species does not require additional maintenance. The new roofs of the Gleneagles Drive Residence are managed by a landscaping planner who removes weeds and monitors gutters once a year. For fall protection, the roofs have separate anchoring points where the grower can clip on.

Due to the steep coastline, the topmost green roof merges into the natural landscape on the north side. This part of the building is used as a covered parking lot, where an access road leads from the road on one side. The surface with a total area of about 170 m² with additional parking spaces is partly located on the roof of the building. To reduce the drainage, the architect SBP Inc. included in this road surface ZinCo EcoRasen lawn strips are RE-LDPE grating elements that are filled with substrate and pre-treated with seeds, ideal for use on driveways and parking lots and creating a very well-groomed overall look.

Harmonious landscaping of the building

Despite the difficult geographical position of the building - a coastal landscape with rocky soil on a steep slope covered with dense forest - the owners of Gleneagles Drive Residence and the designers managed to create a symbiosis of residential and parkland space, including a green roof and parking.

The balance between nature and architecture is fully facilitated by the green roofs of ZinCo, proving that simple extensive landscaping can serve as an example of harmonizing not only this most beautiful corner of Canada, but also similar landscapes in the forest foothills of Russia.
