The project, covering an area of 275 hectares, will be the largest in Latin America since the construction of Brasilia. Its goal is to move government offices from the current center of the Colombian capital (built up according to the general plan of Le Corbusier 1947-1951) to a new area.
The National Administrative Center will be located along Calle Avenue 26, the main urban development axis of Bogota, connecting the city center with the international airport. It will face the avenue with an "arc" of green public spaces interspersed with cultural institutions.
The "arc", skirting around the new development area, will connect the existing Simon Bolivar Park and the university campus. Its paths will expand the CicloVia walking and cycling system, which is very popular among the people of Bogotá.
The development will be divided into three sectors: office, adjacent to the existing financial center (650 thousand m2 of space), administrative (982 thousand m2), facing the existing parks, and educational, bordering the university campus. Also planned are 683 thousand m2 of housing, cultural institutions (including the Museum of Memory), shops, a hotel and a hospital.
