The "basis" for the future hotel will be a building on Lunacharskogo Street, 128, which overlooks the Soviet Army Square - an important urban space where various celebrations from holidays to rallies are traditionally held.

The main volume of the building is a rectangular four-storey building of the "Culinary" technical school, which moved here in the 1960s. Two-storey buildings are attached to it from the side of the traffic streets: in the longer one there is a bank, in the end one there is a restaurant. The architects from the Center bureau received an order for the design of this sprawling hotel building, but they approached the task more broadly: they updated all the facades and at the same time corrected the urban planning problem.

The authors of the project took the fact that the building overlooks a significant area as a starting point and carried out its "morphological analysis".

The square of the Soviet Army is mainly formed by public buildings: the Ministry of State Property Management, the Institute of Mining, the District Officers' House. Part of its ensemble is also the Chekistov Gorodok complex on Lunacharsky Street. Between it and a nine-storey residential building on Pervomayskaya Street, 32, there is a technical school "Culinary" overgrown with extensions, the weakest place from the point of view of the composition of the square.

To eliminate the visual "failure" and make the geometry of the entire building cleaner, the architects propose to "raise" the two-storey volume, attached from the side of the square, to the height of the adjacent building. This will complete the ensemble of the square, outline its southern border, accentuate the intersection, and in addition, the utility yard of the technical school will be hidden.

The first floor of the outbuildings will turn into a glazed gallery. The second - in a white "tape", which stretches through the entire building from the side of Lunacharsky Street, turns onto Pervomayskaya, where it grows up to six floors. On the side of the residential building, a new six-storey building of terracotta color will appear, the volume of the same color, "flashing" the white part, will grow above the bank. The resulting three elements will be connected by a "bridge" -the canopy of the operated roof. The building of the technical school, slightly hidden in the depths, will be lined with gray, which deliberately separates it from the later extensions.

As a result, from the side of Lunacharskogo Street, a play of rectangular volumes is obtained quite in the spirit of constructivism - homage to the architecture of the Chekistov Gorodok complex, and the facade from the side of the square is closer to the aesthetics of modern buildings. The color scheme repeats the shades of neighboring buildings, thanks to which the hotel "sits down" even better in the ensemble of the square.
