Parbhu House (total area of almost 700 m2) designed by the Cape Town-based architect Paolo Deliperi is located on a hill at the foot of Northcliffe Hill, in the eponymous residential suburb of Johannesburg. From a plot of more than 4000 m2 views of the city and the hill open up, so it was decided to concentrate all new buildings on the very top third of the site in order to make full use of these panoramas, and turn the rest of the space, also taking into account the complexity of the relief, into a terraced garden.
The base for the house was a platform on which the common rooms and bedrooms, lawns and a swimming pool are located. The basement level inside the platform is occupied by a garage for three cars, a guest apartment, staff quarters and a storage room: its widening silhouette emphasizes the thickness of the concrete walls, the solidity and tectonics of the volume.
The house itself is designed in the form of two large and several small pavilions, where patinated titanium-zinc RHEINZINK-prePATINA blaugrau was used for the roof and facades. Glass, steel and wood were also used. The resulting residential modules look like a whole village, and the architect interprets the green spaces between them as "rooms" in the open air. Titanium-zinc gives the building integrity and lightness of appearance, as well as the ability to change the image: depending on the time of day, weather and season, the metal surface looks different every time.
RHEINZINK was assembled by G-Tech Roofing (Cape Town). The roof area was 210 m², the façade area was 137 m², and the corner seam technique was chosen for them.
