The industrial area of a small town in Northwest Spain will be transformed into a modern mixed development area. One of the main streets of Vigo Colón will be extended to the seashore, where it will become a new promenade pier running parallel to the embankment. Its end will mark a high-rise building of unusual shape, which Nouvel called "menhir". It will be faced with the typical building material for the area - granite, which should make the skyscraper look like the mountains around Vigo. The rock-like 90-meter-high tower will house the hotel, congress center, office space and a restaurant on the top floor. Its atrium will also be designed in quasi-natural forms.
The pier will also be built almost entirely of granite; he will descend into the sea in wide steps, on which a "water garden" will be arranged: various aquatic plants will be planted, which will gradually descend into the sea and reappear from it during the ebb and flow.
Five blocks will be erected directly in the port area, which will be built up with office buildings, on the first floors of which restaurants and shops will open. There will also be a swimming pool, a yacht club with a helicopter landing pad, a thalassotherapy center, a museum and a pedestrian bridge.
The project budget is 260 million euros, and the construction of a railway tunnel under the new development zone, also proposed by Nouvel, will cost another 20 million.
