ROCKWOOL's business contributes significantly to the global challenge of climate change. Buildings are the main sources of greenhouse gas emissions (even more so than transportation), and thermal insulation is the most effective way to solve this problem. The basis for the production of materials from Rockwool stone wool is natural stone, thanks to which the insulation has the properties of fire safety, durability, and environmental friendliness. Homes with good thermal insulation use less energy for heating and cooling, which means less fossil fuels are burned and less CO2 is released into the atmosphere. Rockwool stone wool is one of the few products in the world that has a positive balance: it saves more energy than was expended in its production.

ROCKWOOL provides consulting services to improve the energy efficiency of buildings and structures. For example, within the framework of an energy audit of three typical objects in St. Petersburg, the Rockwool Design Center proposed measures and solutions, in the case of which the thermal energy savings will be up to 95%. Also, two ROCKWOOL energy-efficient houses have already been built in Russia - GREEN BALANCE in the Moscow Region and NATURAL BALANCE in the Republic of Tatarstan. Both have low energy consumption, comfortable microclimate and good sound insulation. In addition, ROCKWOOL develops recommendations and supplies stone wool solutions as part of the Moscow city program "Responsible Owners - Renovated House": major repairs are carried out with insulation of facades and roofs in 13 787 houses that were commissioned before 1991 and do not require demolition … Heat consumption in houses after major repairs is reduced by an average of 30%.

The company's programs in the field of energy saving and environmental protection have become powerful arguments for the ROCKWOOL nomination for the Moscow Times Awards. Other nominees for the award include Nestle, Samsung, L'Oreal and other major foreign and Russian companies, as well as the most prominent figures in culture and business. The solemn ceremony of announcing the winners will take place in Moscow on December 10.
