The recently opened art center of the famous gallery owner and collector of contemporary art Christophe Mao is quite rightly called Artfarm. It is located near the town of Clinton and at first glance is almost indistinguishable from small hangars for agricultural machinery usual for this region.
The task for the architects and Weiwei, who had worked together not for the first time, was to make the construction as cheap as possible. Therefore, for its outer shell, metal profiles typical of such "sheds" were used; inside its walls are sheathed with plastic panels, and the ceiling - with insulating material such as polyethylene.
The structure consists of three volumes, arranged like the steps of a large staircase: this is a concession to the topography of the selected area. The first two blocks are occupied by a repository for works from the Mao collection: the vault rooms are located on either side of a long corridor that leads to the third, main part of the gallery: an extensive exhibition hall.
