On August 12, 2015, at 87, the Honored Architect of the Russian Federation, laureate of the State Prize of Russia, full member of the Russian Academy of Architecture and Construction Sciences, academician of the International Academy of Architecture (Moscow branch), board member of the Union of Architects of St. currently headed by his son Alexei.

The generation, of which T. P. Sadovsky was a prominent representative, came into the profession at the difficult time of the transition of Soviet architecture from the period of mastering traditions to Soviet modernism.

Timofey Petrovich was a student of the outstanding architect Alexander Sergeevich Nikolsky. Already during his student days, he helped the master in his work on the Primorsky Victory Park and the Kirov Stadium. Involving him to work on the sports facilities of Krestovsky Island was not a coincidence, but a natural continuation of his athletic youth. He was a master of sports and champion of the Soviet Union in rowing, a member of the national team.

Initially, the concept of all the future creative activity of the master was formed, which united the continuity of the views of A. S. Nikolsky, his own experience in the development of water spaces through sports, the energy of dialogue between the architecture of St. Petersburg and Water: the Neva and its rivers, canals, the Gulf of Finland.

The essence of his many years of work has become a unique symbiosis of Water, Air and Architecture, which includes the whole complex of interaction of the embankments of cities, the smooth surfaces of Russian rivers, the development of embankments, including the complexes of river stations, in the construction of which he became a pioneer in our country.

In the late fifties, he created the author's architectural studio at LenGIProRechTrans, which was originally a creative team of like-minded people, creating a niche for creativity in the difficult period of Soviet architecture and was its permanent leader until 1994. Under his leadership, unique objects were created - comprehensive work on the organization of embankments was carried out for Leningrad - St. Petersburg, Sestroretsk, Arkhangelsk, Nizhny Novgorod, Irkutsk, Khabarovsk, Astrakhan, Saratov, Vologda, Tver, Rybinsk, Uglich, Ulyanovsk, design solutions were proposed reconstruction of the Northern port at the Khimki reservoir in Moscow. And he also implemented unique objects of multifunctional complexes of river stations in Omsk, Volgograd, Yaroslavl, which are still in operation and are not only landmark objects for cities, but also public centers.

The works of Timofey Petrovich were one of the first examples of the export of Leningrad architecture, starting in the 1960s, and have always been highly praised by the professional community of Leningrad and the country. And the river station complex in the historical center of Yaroslavl was awarded the USSR State Prize for 1986.

He is the author of monuments to Russian and Swedish sailors, creators of the Russian fleet, famous cultural figures of our country, as well as to the heroes of the Battle of Stalingrad.

The work of Timofei Petrovich Sadovsky is a vivid example of the search for individuality in the difficult era of the sixties: in terms of the unity of urban planning solutions and space-planning decisions of architecture, scale, quality of detailing, interior design, landscaping and technological innovations. His author's architecture is recognizable wherever he built and to this day serves as an impetus for the future architecture of Russian cities. His works represent the natural unity of the new aesthetics of the mid-20th century and the deep traditions of Russian culture and universal values.

In our memory, Timofey Petrovich will remain a man who devoted his whole life to architecture as a service, for whom the main criterion of action was: is he ethical? Human, spiritual qualities were as much a part of his nature as professionalism and service to the chosen cause. We admired Timofey Petrovich's active life position: he always did not care - he fought and searched, made plans, communicated, lived, and was sincerely friends.

For almost half a century, Timofey Petrovich was a member of the City Planning Council of Leningrad-Petersburg, and during the perestroika years he headed the public architectural council. Timofey Petrovich brought up a whole galaxy of architects who actively participate in the work of the Union of Architects of St. Petersburg and Russia and the Academies of Architecture.

The St. Petersburg Union of Architects received condolences from all over the country. We mourn over the death of Timofei Petrovich Sadovsky and express our deep condolences to our family and friends.

Mikhail Mamoshin, on behalf of the St. Petersburg Union of Architects of Russia, the St. Petersburg Branch of the Russian Academy of Architecture and Construction Sciences, the St. Petersburg Academic Center MAAM.
