The Campbell Center will act as a gateway to the Baker Gymnasium, the university's premier outdoor sports facility.
Stephen Hall, as always, has developed a theoretical framework for his project: he will develop mind, body, and mind / body in an inextricable connection. The building itself is described as “points on the ground, lines in space”: a reference to the match plans developed for football, baseball and other team games. The dots and lines on these diagrams represent the physical confrontation on the field, and on the Hall facades this confrontation is reflected in space. External staircases and terraces continue the adjacent playing field within the building boundaries.
In the center of Campbell, on a total area of 4,460 m2, training facilities, offices of university teams, an assembly hall, a hotel room for potential visitors, classrooms are planned. Its opening is scheduled for autumn 2012.
