The so-called "Peace Palace" will receive a library and conference center with an area of 7,500 sq. m.
Books on problems of international law will be kept there. The total cost of the object is 25 million euros, the Carnegie Endowment is the customer. The construction is scheduled to be completed by the summer of 2006.
In addition to the new reading room and the book depository of the law library, the new premises will house the conference center of the Academy of International Law and the offices of the tribunal's employees.
Each of the functional blocks is placed in a separate volume - a triangular one for a library, an ellipse for a conference room and an elongated one for administrative premises.
The three-story central lobby unites the library and the Academy. The open spaces occupied by the café, business center and reception area are also used for social receptions and recreation of visitors. Offices are located on both sides of the main hall.
