Large-scale restoration work was undertaken in the brick mansion of Darwin D. Martin (1905), belonging to the type of "prairie houses": in order to recreate its original appearance, the neighboring residential building of the 1960s, which disfigured the monument, was even demolished.
But they did not stop there: 45 years after the death of the architect, the construction of three of his new buildings is underway. This is the mausoleum intended by F. L. Wright in 1928 in his design for the Darwin D. Martin family (now called the Mausoleum of the Blue Sky and available to all interested parties), a boat station on the Niagara River, designed in 1905 for Wisconsin, and a gas station (1927), the only of three buildings, which will appear in the very place where the architect himself was going to build it.
All three projects involve Anthony Puttenham, who worked in Wright's office 50 years ago. He specializes in the implementation of his projects, taking on an order, even if the complete documentation has not been preserved.
Many architectural historians and admirers of Frank Lloyd Wright's talent are opposed. In their opinion, the resulting buildings are close to profanation and are only for advertising purposes. Wright has always closely followed the implementation of his ideas - down to the smallest detail, and in new buildings, not only will there not be such accuracy: they will even carry out the necessary modernization of projects, which will largely nullify the author's intention.
On the other hand, those critics are of the opinion that it is undoubtedly better to build three unusual buildings, based on the designs of the great American architect, than three standard buildings.
