The master of design began his lecture by defining the concept of architecture - to which he refers at most 10 buildings of the 20th century, including the Guggenheim Museum in New York, the Frank Gary Museum in Bilbao, Lloyd Wright's House on the Water and others. "Architecture is the creation of something new and unique, and everything else can be called just construction." Therefore, he advised all the students present "to immediately decide what they will do, since both are equally necessary."
Gaetano Pesce advocates that each building has its own, not abstract, but national face. “All ideologies of the twentieth century are aimed at suppressing the personality, making it just a cog, but it is precisely pluralism that is a characteristic of modern society. Each of us is unique and inimitable - so why is the architecture so impersonal and does not reflect the local culture, landscape, climate? " Pesce showed the public about a dozen "abstract" buildings and kept asking the audience - can anyone say where it is? But there was usually silence in response.
At the beginning of his creative work, Pesce himself was a rationalist, but then, having traveled a lot around the world, he realized that nothing is the same and his goal is to express this difference. Now the master is actively promoting the third industrial revolution - after the First industrial revolution of the 18th century, the assembly line production of the XX should, in his opinion, a design revolution - when unique individual things will be created industrially, that is, "for cheap". For example, custom-made cars or more, “I put the car, and then, returning, I can't recognize it, because during this time, for example, I changed the color … I am a fan of things and I think that each should be made especially for me, under my character, but at the same time not costly."
Among his projects, he introduced a home in Japan, Osaka. Following the Japanese principle of "cutting off all unnecessary", Peshe saw in the bamboo a symbol of the country, which is also associated with freedom for him - "each stem is somehow especially and uniquely tilted, and they all move and sway." He actively used the bamboo stem on the facade, made them the entire surface, and next to the stone portrait of the plant, he placed tubs with the real one. As a result, the facade turned into solid bamboo thickets.
For a small town near Genoa, Pesce created a boat dock combined with an artificial beach, cafes and small shops. It is made in the shape of a large fish, the "gnawed" bones of which have become the actual pier, the abdomen - the beach, and the head - a public area. This project, as the author said, was very much liked by one official who recently became the mayor of the city - the implementation of the berth is likely to happen.
Several years ago, among eminent architects: Zaha Hadid, Paul André and others, a competition was held to create a hotel room in one of the cities of the world. Pesce got a room in the Moscow Hotel, which he was very happy about, and made, in his own words, a little kitsch and provocative project. The door to the bathroom in the form of a man's and a woman's face is made of very soft “pleasant to the touch” materials, pillows in the form of gold-domed domes, a cover in the form of a city map. Moscow for Pesce seems too varied and extravagant, while he wanted to create a truly unusual interior instead of those whitewashed ones that are usually found in hotels. Not without Soviet symbols - the translucent floor in the room is decorated with small sickles and hammers as a sign that it used to be a symbol that everyone had above their heads, but now it has become so small, people are now free and now you can walk on it with your feet. A piece of art in a room is a lamp made from many flexible wires that bend in any direction so that the entire room is illuminated. The room was presented at the Moscow Hotel shortly before its demolition.
Gaetano Pesce illustrated his commitment to debunking myths and long-standing opinions: for the 500th anniversary of Andrea Palladio, he made a bright red wardrobe as a sign that the great master was the son of a washerwoman (and the linen was colored) and a resident of Venice, and therefore could not don't use color. And now everyone considers Palladio's houses to be monochrome and snow-white. The wardrobe is made of special plastic, in which the striped linen and foam running through the water are depicted in the finest way.
