Let us remind you that the media center of the 2012 Olympics is being built according to the project of the architectural bureau Eliza & Morrison. For a long time, it was assumed that after the competition it would turn into the headquarters of a company specializing in radio broadcasting or high technologies, but an anchor tenant for this idea was never found. Today, the London authorities are considering a different scenario for the development of events: the media center complex can be dismantled, and a completely different sports and entertainment facility will appear in its place.
One of the main candidates is now the "Snow in the City" winter sports center, for which Acer Snowmec, the world renowned leader in artificial snow cover, will be responsible. In particular, Acer Snowmec has a successful experience of building a ski slope in a shopping center in Dubai, so the climate of London does not bother the company at all.
The complex has a total area of over 28 thousand sq. m. Gensler has provided the opportunity for a variety of winter sports: here you can skate, downhill and cross-country skiing, try your hand at bobsleigh and curling. In addition, the building will house a sports academy, offices and a media center.
The center of the whole composition is the 89-meter ski slope. In order to minimize the shading of the structures located under and next to it, the architects made the roof of the complex partially transparent. This solution will also provide the sports center building with sufficient daylight.
