The centerpiece of its exposition is the exhibition of the same name for the entire event - Out There: Architecture Beyond Building. On it, in the space of the Corderie Arsenal, installations are presented, made by invited architects especially for the Biennale.
Frank Gehry showed there a large-scale wooden sculpture called Ungapatchket, similar in spirit to his wooden pavilion of the Serpentine Gallery in London this year.
Zaha Hadid's Lotus installation continues the theme of digital generation of three-dimensional shapes based on various mathematical calculations, begun by her installation Aura at Villa Malcontenta.
Workshop Asymptote participates in the exhibition with their exercise on the theme “architecture besides buildings”: their work is entitled “Prototyping the Future: Three Houses for the Subconscious”.
The “fitting room” of “UN Studio” should make the viewer look at himself and at architecture from new perspectives.
Greg Lynn presented an unexpected series of Recycled Toy Furniture, reminiscent of multi-colored fragments of protoplasm.
Atelier Bow-Wow has also opted for furniture as an alternative to architecture: their Furnivehicle is a hybrid of a vehicle with furnishings with a pronounced green connotation.
Totan Kuzembaev took part in the exhibition with his installation "Nomad's Yurt".
In the Artillery of the Arsenal there is an exposition “The Eternal City. 30 years after “Roma interrotta””(Uneternal City. Thirty years after“Roma interrotta”). There, invited workshops explore the problem of modern Rome, its present and future. Unlike the participants of the 1978 Roma interrotta exhibition, who created utopian, idealistic pictures of its development based on the structure of the 18th century city, the workshops BIG, MAD, West 8 and others pay attention to the Roman outskirts, industrial zones - spaces where “The Eternal City” and the “Developing City” begins, a living metropolis located outside the wall of Aurelian. In addition to architects, seven filmmakers from around the world who have created video projects on the same topic are also trying to find him.
The most striking, and out of context, of all the works presented at the Eternal City exhibition is Superstar: Mobile Chinatown by MAD. This is a project of a city for 15,000 inhabitants: autonomous, with its own sources of energy and food, a waste recycling system, infrastructure, recreational areas, and so on. It is intended to replace traditional Chinatowns, which have become as commonplace in the urban landscape as gas stations and fast food restaurants, and have lost all connection with modern Chinese culture. "Superstar" is designed to acquaint residents of different cities of the world - starting with Rome - with real Chinese art, cuisine, and industrial products.
