At the request of the curators, the bureaus BIG, INABA, MAD and Mass Studies have developed a hypothetical master plan for the urban area where the museum is located. The architects proposed the construction of four new buildings there, the size and function of which could be easily changed. At the center of this project is the value of an architectural form that remains significant from an aesthetic and practical point of view at any scale.
The master plan is designed for the changing economic situation: during the crisis, buildings can be reduced to a height of 80 m, in the event of a new source of funding, the same projects can be implemented with a height of 400 m. The exhibition is exploring the possibility of changing their scale up to 10,000% …
However, the architects did not stop at the usual functions - housing, offices, shops and public spaces. They presented at the exhibition large models of their buildings, which in parallel act as a new bookstore for the museum, a set of tables and chairs, furniture for the recreational area and an information kiosk. But this is not the limit: all four projects were also carried out on a "tabletop" scale - like a reading lamp, lamp, puzzle and toy.
So the authors offer a reverse look at the layout: not as a means of demonstrating the appearance of a new building, but as a self-sufficient object, for which the project of a hypothetical building that coincides with it in shape is just an advertisement.
