On the long list of the "Rating" there were 32 properties built in the last two years. The nominees included the works of the leading workshops of the city, and young architects generally have preferences when nominating their buildings for the competition - for discussion and receiving estimates. Among the new buildings there were also two significant objects for the city, designed by invited architects: an IT park (draft design, coordination - ABD architects) and the new terminal of Strigino airport (Hintan Associates, Signy Group). According to the terms of project implementation, among 32 nominees there were long-term construction projects, which began to be erected back in 2005 and 2006; of the fastest growing - residential high-rise buildings, projects for a private customer.
"Rating of the architecture of Nizhny Novgorod" has been conducted since 1997, and since then the two-stage survey has been used to rank new buildings. But, as experience has shown, simple arithmetic calculation speaks more about moods than about the quality of architecture - especially with the advent of electronic questionnaires - therefore it is important to use elements of sociological polls, dividing into reference groups. In the 11th "Rating" 272 residents of Nizhny Novgorod voted, 18 experts gave their assessments according to a short list.
This time, the “Rating” did not announce the intermediate result - the “hot ten” - short-list, as it happened in previous years. It was decided to keep the intrigue until the presentation, and at the same time, with the help of the jury, find out which of the two controversial shortlist nominees will finally remain in the Top Ten (with almost equal points in the long list). However, the jury did not clarify: the difference of one point can hardly be called convincing. Therefore, at the gala evening, which ended the "Rating", a wish was voiced: to leave eleven buildings in the eleventh "Rating". And since this time there was only one cake, this proposal did not change the overall picture.
One of the differences between the Nizhny Novgorod competition is the lack of nominations. In some years, nominations still appeared - with similar quality of different objects. Most often this is a residential building and a public (commercial, office) building. But for the “Rating”, other formulations are nevertheless closer: something “For rhythmic accuracy”, “House as a holiday”, or “For a large-scale demonstration of the customer's capabilities”.
In general, despite the fact that the “Rating” has been held for almost twenty years, its conditions are flexible, with a response to specific situations of time and place. One thing is fundamental: the winner is chosen based on the collective opinion.
The aim of the competition is not only to draw attention to architecture, but to love it. Likewise, when they ask: do you love the sea? - you don’t wonder which one - Black, Mediterranean or Northern. Do you love architecture? - Yes.
In the 11th "Rating" the result was predictable: back in 2005, the "Green" project received the "Golden Diploma" of the Zodchestvo festival. Last year - "silver" for implementation. There are several outstanding publications in between these awards. However, the building has not been favored by the arithmetic average love of Nizhny Novgorod residents, in contrast to the same building of the Bank "Guarantee", from which the history of the Nizhny Novgorod rating "cake building" began. "Green" is not yet inhabited, residents of the neighborhood blame the old wooden house demolished for parking, some townspeople are sure that it was necessary to build in the same way or a literal replica of the Tax, which stands opposite on Frunze Street, and so "the neighborhood of" Green "ditched this masterpiece”included in the encyclopedia. The rating jury also differed in their assessments: for some this building is the last of the original, Nizhny Novgorod, for others it is a very aggressive, multi-dark object. However, its tonic power cannot be ignored. For the presentation of the "Office of Open Architecture" - the bureau, which is now independently headed by Aleksey Kamenyuk - prepared a video showing the development of the ideas of "Green", the influence of the immediate environment on its shaping. This explanation, as well as another excursion to the site on a weekend, undoubtedly increased the liking for "Green".

On the site of this administrative building with an underground parking lot at the intersection of Frunze and Bolshaya Pecherskaya streets, an office parallelepiped with the maximum possible output of the squares could be built. However, the first customer, Radiotechbank, liked the sculptural volume proposed by the architects. The customer without looking back resigned himself to the loss of 1,500 square meters for his own aesthetic pleasure. Over time, the object changed hands, but was completed without simplifications and distortions of the project.

The building, whose silhouette resembles a large monitor on a stand or bedside table, was hastily handed over last summer. The construction of a technopark was supposed to begin with it, but the town of Sberbank has already settled nearby, clearly limiting the possibilities of developing space for high technologies. The project was drawn in the Moscow bureau ABD, all approvals were passed in Nizhny Novgorod and after that it was handed over to a local designer. At the stage of preparation for the acceptance of the object, it seems that the authors were completely forgotten: a very budget company was engaged in the interior decor. However, the most luxurious atrium in the city, the most comfortable rooms for lectures, seminars and meetings are now here.
3. Terminal of the airport "Strigino"

An international terminal appeared at the Nizhny Novgorod airport back in the mid-1990s, although the situation has not changed radically: a two-story long building, neither outside nor inside, does not fit a modern airport terminal. The design of the new "Strigino" has been going on for many years, the process has accelerated the hopes for the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
4. House "Slate"

A private residential building designed by Stas Gorshunov is one of the leaders of the Nizhny Novgorod "Rating". The facades along the roads - with a minimum number of windows - are covered with black slate, overlooking the courtyard - of white sandstone.

The distortion of the official name of the administrative building on Belinsky Street is associated with memories of a big scandal that preceded this construction. The building "cut off" the school yard and visually - the pedestrian sidewalk. The designers did their best to smooth out the conflict. At the same time, they installed the first bent glass in the city and provided for the placement of the future exit of the metro station in the structure of the building.

Formally - out of ten, but the difference with the "Senator" is 1 point.
The project of a shopping and entertainment center on the site of a regional market and a green ravine with nightingales was developed under the name Atlantis. Two months before the commissioning of the object, the name was changed (the developer is related to the Semyonov factory "Khokhloma"), but the white "ices" of galleries, "dotted" installations of lamps, the figures of giants at the entrances remained - in accordance with the original concept.
