Sejong should become the new administrative center of the country: it is planned to transfer part of the ministries and other executive bodies from Seoul there. At the same time, a variety of infrastructure is being created there, including cultural, in order to provide civil servants with everything they need.
The performing arts center, as envisioned by the architects, will be a reflection of urban life and a celebration of modern culture, although they see in their project a connection with local tradition. The building reminds of the elegantly curved roofs of pavilions and temples, as well as the monumentality of the monuments of Korean architecture.
The two main entrances to the building are located on the east-west axis, crossing the site diagonally: to the west is the city center, and to the east is the museum quarter and a park on the river bank. The building faces the city with a glazed facade, a "showcase" for performances and concerts taking place inside. A shutter system protects it from the heat of the sun.
The area of 15,000 m2 will house a large hall, a black box hall, a multiplex cinema, a lecture hall, and an art gallery. A restaurant, lobby and underground parking are also planned.
