Among the rivals of Tod Williams and Billy Price in the final were such "stars" of world architecture as Hans Hollein, Tom Main, Fumiko Maki and Daniel Libeskind.
The winning option attracted the competition jury with its "full of light", making the new building the obvious center of the entire campus complex. At the same time, its forms are laconic and restrained enough not to disturb the existing ensemble: after all, the buildings of Hero Saarinen and Ludwig Mies van der Rohe are located nearby.
The new Riva and David Logan Arts Center will be an ensemble of transparent glass blocks set around a courtyard. The interior will house spaces for concerts, theater performances, film screenings, lectures and exhibitions.
The $ 100 million complex will be built by 2011.
