The word curve is most often translated as "bend" or "curved line", which is quite suitable for the oval volume of the new building, but its innovative architectural solution makes the "bend" option no less appropriate. In his first building in Great Britain, Vignoli brought the idea of building transparency to its logical conclusion: no one has ever conducted such an experiment with a theater.
In a four-story building with a glass façade protected from the sun by metal shutters, the foyer and both auditoriums are located at street level. The main stage is located between the bright - pink and purple - volumes of its amphitheater (for 750 people) and a smaller studio hall with 350 seats. Nearby there is a brick volume with various utility rooms, a cash register and offices.
All the remaining free space, perfectly visible from the street, serves as a lobby. There are no separate corridors or even entrances for the actors and service staff, so they will have to move around the theater among the audience. Dressing rooms are located on a "shelf" adjacent to the facade and visible both from the outside and from the foyer; it will also be possible to see the work of the decoration workshop. A portion of the main stage wall can be raised in front of the performance, allowing pedestrians and theatergoers to see the stage workers at work.
Despite the fact that this Curve design seems to violate the tradition of secrecy and secrecy of the theater "craft", the directors and the artistic director of the project are ecstatic. In their opinion, the unusual device will only stimulate the creative activity of the troupe.
