The new building will be the center of the Danish Public Broadcasting Company DR headquarters ensemble; while it is located among the wastelands and overpasses of the light railroad, but in the future, office and studio buildings will appear around. For Jean Nouvel, this situation turned out to be unusual: according to him, he usually carefully studies the context of his future construction, but in this case it is not yet there: when the architect was working on the project of the concert hall, even the approximate appearance of the surrounding buildings was not known. Therefore, Nouvel compared himself with the architect of the 11th century, building a city cathedral and not knowing what would arise around his creation in half a century.

Continuing this metaphor, quite in the tradition of cult architecture, Nouvel clearly separated the interior of the building from the city space: a rectangular volume 45 m high is covered with a blue screen, which plays the role of a curtain in the daytime, and serves as a projection screen at night. The metal frame supporting it resembles scaffolding; The "construction site" motif is continued by the plywood paneling of the interior, alternating with sections of untreated concrete, into which thin sheets of plastic were added during the casting, resulting in a slightly folded elephant skin type surface.

The foyer space unites all tiers of the building, all four studio halls of the complex go there. The volume of the main concert hall, studio No. 1, also sheathed with plywood from the outside, is "suspended" over the heads of the building's visitors. Inside, there are 1,800 spectator seats in terraces around the stage. To achieve the ideal acoustic qualities of the room, special wooden and plastic panels were used, the mass of which per 1 m2 of the wall reaches at least 100 kg. The dark red color of the concert hall connects it with the halls of historical musical theaters in Europe. The function of this main studio is to serve as the home stage for the Danish National Symphony Orchestra.

Studio №2 for 500 spectators is sheathed with plywood sheets with portraits of prominent musicians and composers - Danish or those connected with Denmark. Studios numbered 3 and 4 have 200 seats each; they are black box spaces where any configuration of seating positions and positions of performers is possible. The first is framed with black panels, the second - scarlet.
