The Balancing Barn Villa will be built near the village of Thorington, Suffolk, for short-term rentals to anyone interested in bringing quality contemporary architecture to the general public.
The building with traditional outlines was named "The Balancing Barn" by the architects for an obvious reason: its volume will be 50% overhanging the hillside. This "cantilever" section (a fully occupied large living room) will overlook the nearby lake and gardens, and through the glass floor, the swing underneath the house.
The house will be hardly noticeable from the side of the road: it is facing it with an end only 7 m wide. Its longitudinal sides will hide the trees growing nearby, which will provide privacy, while each of the rooms will be equipped with a panoramic window that connects the interior with the natural environment. At the same time, there will be enough space inside (including 4 bedrooms for two guests each), since the length of the villa will be 30 m. Its walls will be sheathed outside with polished metal sheets, which will change the appearance of the structure depending on the season and time of day.
