Christian de Portzamparc, the author of the project, used the favorable location of the building: in the middle of a grove on the Louvain-la-Neuve campus. Due to the unevenness of the relief, the second floor of the building turned out to be on the same level with the city streets, therefore, it is on this tier that the lobby of the museum is located, where a pedestrian bridge leads from the city. The glazed first floor with technical rooms serves as the base for the main volume of the building, a white elongated prism.

Its walls are cut with large rectangular openings and resemble a comic book page with a series of drawings. The similarity intensifies in the dark, when the interior of the museum is visible through the windows.

From the lobby, the visitor finds himself in a light atrium that connects four thematic exhibition zones - "chapters" of the exposition. They are dedicated to the life and work of Hergé (Georges Remy), Tantan (Tintin) and his lesser known creations. These small and softly lit rooms are enclosed in bright volumes connected to each other by bridges. The architect compares the resulting fantastic "landscape" with the world of Hergé's drawings - very believable and at the same time completely different from reality.
