The project for the center of culture and art in Changsha appeared back in 2011, when the customer held a closed competition, construction began in the fall of 2012, and it was presented to the public only in 2013. In 2017, a large theater hall was opened, since each of the three parts of the complex has an independent infrastructure … Now, at the end of 2019, the Meixihu Center has fully opened: the museum hosts the first exhibition: the media art of the MOTSE group, an association of 40 artists and researchers from Shenzhen.
The Meixihu Center with a total area of 115,000 m2 is located on the shores of the lake of the same name in the new development area, and it has been equipped with its own metro station. From the square, on which its three volumes "swirl", bridges lead to the green Festive Island. The outlines of the "buildings" of "Meisihu", as the architects assure, are determined precisely by the routes of pedestrians hurrying to the island from the surrounding streets, as well as by the perspective views of the lake from the city.
The area around the center is planned to be used for sculpture exhibitions and various events, and its facades are covered with 53,000 m2 of white glass fiber reinforced concrete panels.
The Bolshoi Theater for 1800 spectators received a variety of infrastructure, including VIP lounges, rehearsal studios, bars, etc.
In the MICA Museum, eight rooms with a total area of 10,000 m2 are grouped around an atrium, where large works of art can be displayed. There is also a lecture hall, study spaces ("workshops") for local residents, a cafe and a shop.
The Maly Theater, with 500 seats, can be transformed for a variety of needs, from chamber dramas and fashion shows to commercial presentations and banquets.
The functional program should make Meisiha popular almost round the clock: during the day, visitors will be attracted by the museum, and in the evening - by the main theater hall, while the small one will be used for various purposes from morning to night.
