The building will be located on the territory of the former exhibition complex of the International Fair, near the historical center of Damascus. It will become the “core” of a new public space of 170,000 m2. The building will house a scientific educational center for children 5-15 years old, with interactive educational exhibitions. In addition to the exhibition halls, a library, an educational center and administrative premises will be located on a total area of 16,000 m2.
The project uses two metaphors: a traditional Arab city with narrow streets and a damask rose flower - one of the oldest varieties of roses known for its large number of petals. Therefore, the outer shell of the building will hide a "labyrinth" of various rooms, illuminated from above by sunlight. In the "core" of the building, on the ground floor, there will be a public space where visitors can start exploring the exposition. From there, ramps and stairs will rise up, connecting this area with the shell of the structure: this vertical direction is opposed to the usual movement for an Arab city exclusively horizontally.
