The new Liège-Guillemin railway terminal, replacing the 1958 building, took about 10 years to build; it was necessary to combine construction with the full operation of the station, serving about 36,000 people a day. Now this number should increase, as the station entered the TGV high-speed railway network (its technical requirements necessitated the construction of a new building).

The construction is also intended to stimulate the development of the urban area of Guillemin: the reconstruction of the station square, the construction of a new avenue from the station to the Meuse and the transformation of the island of Boveri on this river into a "museum island" are directly related to it.

The station, located between the wooded hills, is a "building without a facade." Its design is exhausted by an elegant undulating roof of 39 steel arches, located not as usual, across the tracks, but along - along the movement of trains. The building reaches a length of 200 m, at the highest point of its steel and glass ceilings rise up to 50 m. However, five platforms are almost completely open to possible bad weather - but this also allows you to save on lighting during daylight hours. Glass blocks form part of the pavement of passenger platforms, thanks to which the sun's rays penetrate into the underground part of the station: into the passages between platforms and a garage for 800 cars.
