The building is intended for the Faculty of Health and Social Assistance, as well as departments of sports science and pedagogy. Its interior space is organized around an atrium, which is crossed in different directions by glass bridges. The galleries surrounding it have zones for informal communication and the use of a wireless Internet connection.
But the main thing in the construction was not its public spaces, but the resource-saving methods of heating, air conditioning and water heating applied by the architects. The main place was taken by a geothermal system for cooling and heating indoor air, using both the mass of the 8-storey concrete building itself and 28-meter wells in the ground. Glazed facades are covered with sun screens, and solar panels are installed on the roof to heat the water. Also on the roof is the control center for the entire system, which is also designed for educational work. It serves as a visual aid for everyone, first of all, future engineers, who are trained by Southbank University.
