It will not be an ordinary educational center, but a pioneering venture by local authorities. They received funds from the state for its construction due to the fact that teenagers aged 14-19 will be taught there by immersion in the language, and languages will be rare for British schools: North Chinese (Mandarin), Arabic and Russian. Immersion in the language outside the country, where it is the main one, is difficult to ensure, but it is probably possible: students will live in the center for long periods of time, during which a "digital environment" will be created for them, simulating various aspects of life in China, the Arab world or Russia.
The money for the construction was allocated not only by the Department of Education, but also by the English Heritage Trust, which deals with heritage. The reason for this and the most important aspect of the project is its location on the grounds of the Blackfriars Monastery in the homonymous area of Gloucester. The complex of this Dominican priory, founded in the 13th century, is now somewhat excluded from city life. A new three-storey building will be erected on the site of industrial buildings of the 19-20 centuries, completing the square of the cloister of the monastery. In addition to classrooms, it will house auxiliary and technical spaces necessary for the full use of the monument. A new path will also be laid through the courtyard of the priory to the so far only planned area nearby.
It is assumed that the language center will be the first step towards the regeneration of the entire surrounding area.
